devastation

Scenes around a burnt out area at Jeeralang. Photo: Wayne Taylor

It has been a devastating week for so many families in Victoria. The combination of drought, heat and wind (and some despicable people) provided conditions for a fire storm that has never been seen before in Victoria. The terror felt by these families is just unimaginable. My hope is that, as has already been witnessed, the Australian spirit of generosity will continue to grow so that these families may see some semblance of normality soon. Hats off to our countries emergency services who are still working around the clock to do what they can.... you are true heroes.

obamarama

Obamarama.... the world has gone mad! Well, I shouldn't really say mad because I was one of them! How many of you can say that you set your alarm for 3.30am and watched the Inauguration at a friends house???? Huh... how many of you?  Anyway, being a part of history and all that! So we sat on the couch with cups of tea in our pyjamas and watched history unfold... what a speaker... inspirational, and who doesn't want to watch Aretha at 4.00am .... see now you are jealous! Now I am looking forward to what this new President brings to our world .... surely it can only be good... look at the overwhelming adoration and pride in country he has brought already.
But, can someone let Michelle know that Mask/ Shrek green hands are terribly unattractive!

sound of music?

Found a lovely pattern here ( http://theclampetts.blogspot.com/2008/10/habitual-sundress.html) for a simple sundress. It is a little big for her at the moment... but I do love the shape of the dress.. she'll grow into it. So, I really am a sewing novice, just learnt through this experience how to make a French Seam! I was really bamboozled by the French Seam instructions but I stuck with it and am pleased with the end result.
Small matter... is the fabric a little too Sound of Music for a dress???? It is a great print from Ikea... so very cheap.... total cost of dress is about $4! But I am worried that people may start yodelling when they see her coming!
"Doe a deer.......!!!"

twilight

So, my life is now over. Not really...but thought I would be Bella Swan dramatic. Having spent the last 2 weeks reading...and I mean every spare minute reading, the Twilight Series, going to bed early to read, in the backyard once, even when I was getting changed after a shower and in between ads when Law and Order was on! Took myself to the movies on my own to see it before it finished . I loved it...even thought it is written mainly for a teenage audience I was well and truly obsessed. So now I can't even pick up another book as I know that there is no possible way another book can come close...
My only hope is holding out for the next few movies to be made... can they make them in a couple of weeks.. as the detox is painful!

happy betty!

Well I'm too embarrassed to even apologise for the loonnng absence you can check the date for yourself. I have rested and spent time with the family and generally had a wonderful break. I can feel the beginning of Term 1 looming and am thinking of my New Year resolutions...Im not one of those people who regularly lament about time flying and all that...but doesn't it!
So, this year here are my hopes....
  • Don't sweat the small things.....lego bionicles lying on the floor aren't going to kill me even if I have asked 5 times for them to be picked up!
  • Enrol in an Adobe Illustrator course in Term 2. Needing help with this program.....really looking forward to finding many new possibilities.
  • Take time to be spontaneous.....thus the photos....there was ironing to be done, but Betty (my daughters doll) needed a Doona...so that came first! Used some remnants from Cicada Studio and Aunty Coookie, and a bit of left over Babushka print....and as you can see Betty was really chuffed to be tucked in snugly by Maeve. Need to capitalise on a few more of these moments.
  • Say No more often...I suppose that this one sounds quite selfish...but this is for the hangers on out there....the people who like to ask for everything... and then I stupidly say yes out of guilt and trying to make everyone happy ... well from now on...BAD LUCK...expect to hear no if you are a leech! (This is not for all of my lovely friends...I don't put you in the leech category!!)
  • Finally....... Craft and Blog more...  hoping that a teaching 5 day fortnight does not prevent me from this....  BRING ON 2009!

busy

I can't believe that I have not posted for a whole month...well I can...life has been hectic....as it is for everyone. But, between extra days teaching, middle sons birthday, a trip to Sydney to visit family, school Cabarets and never ending home renovations...I have slipped in the blog posting department!
By the way Sydney was great! Had a ball exploring the harbour and just loved the Botanic Gardens..the bats amaze me.They look unusual on the photo above...only because I posted them before rotating the picture. Whoops! Great to see Mum and Dad can't wait for Christmas to catch up again. Speaking of which have begun the wrapping, with a very simple brown paper, grosgrain ribbon and my own printed tags. I'm chuffed...nice to look at, after all you have to live with it all for a month!
Soooo, hopefully back to printing this week...and some more regular posting.

Also, one of two new cushions that I am putting together ....have had a a friend teaching me about zippers which I was quite frightened of, but now I am ready to try for myself...I suppose we shall see how the lesson pays off on the next cushion. Thanks Leanne!
